The Dallas Cowboys’ attempt to avenge the only loss of Dak Prescott’s N.F.L. career sputtered, but they went into the locker room leading the Giants 7-0 thanks to a play fake by the rookie quarterback that left an entire defense scrambling.
It was the second offensive possession for Dallas when Prescott showed off the veteran ability that has impressed so many people this season. After just missing a touchdown pass that was dropped in the end zone, Prescott regrouped and rolled out on a bootleg that he sold so well that it fooled the entire Giants defense, leaving Terrance Williams wide open for a 31-yard touchdown.
The touchdown was a rare offensive highlight in a half that included a great deal of pressure on both quarterbacks and ugly turnovers on both sides. The game even included a rare interception by Prescott, which came largely as a result of Dez Bryant stumbling with the ball on the way to him, allowing Janoris Jenkins to snatch it away from the star receiver. It was just the third interception of the season by Prescott who is up to 20 touchdown passes.
In their last meeting, the Giants came back to win in the fourth quarter, with the score having been kept close thanks to Ezekiel Elliott, the Cowboys’ other star rookie, being limited to 51 yards on 20 carries. At the half, Elliott, who was leading the N.F.L. with 1,285 yards coming into the game, was already up to 86 yards on 15 carries.
